Tasting Notes

Value VQA Cab-Merlot

Reif Estate  2012 Cabernet Merlot (LCBO 565713 | $13.75)
Big and fruity nose with ripe raspberry and sweet blackberry. Medium to full bodied on the palate, with good acidity and moderate tannins. Hints of spice under the fruit, which is fairly delicate on the palate. It's all nicely smooth and there's a nice uplift on the finish, which has a fresh raspberry note. Grab some for an Indian Summer barbecue.

Note on 2012: Reif vineyard manager Ron Bertrand says that 2012 averaged 3-4 degrees above normal and that it was one of the earliest harvests on record for Niagara. In other words, very good news indeed for the bigger red grapes like cab and merlot.
