Tasting Notes

Pick a Picpoul

Picpoul de Pinet is a small AOC right on the shore of the Mediterannean and is the largest producer of white wine in the Languedoc region. The grape used is white picpoul (or piquepoul) and has the benefit of good natural acidity - so even though the climate is warm, it has none of the roundness you might expect (or fear).

Ormarine Picpoul de Pinet 2010

Nicely rich and aromatic nose of peach, nectarine and melon, all with a very fresh feel. On the palate it's super fresh - the zesty acidity typical of the grape is present and it's drier and less fruity than the nose would suggest. There's even a great mineral/saline note. The finish drops off a bit, but some ripe fruit notes do show up. The quality/value ratio is excellent - this would be terrific with oysters and other shellfish.
