Wine on the Web
New Brunswick to N.J.

Gary Vaynerchuk developed a taste for wine helping out at his parents' liquor store. After he took over as wine buyer a few years ago, the store's sales rose 10-fold to an incredible $45 million per year. The store in Springfield, N.J. was rebranded as The Wine Library and Gary took it online a few years ago with Wine Library TV.

His pushy, irreverent style and emphatic likes and dislikes caught on quickly and Vaynerchuk has become a wine celebrity. He's been covered all over the media and travels around the US regularly, and he will be visiting Toronto later this year for an event at the Drake Hotel.

Vaynerchuk covers everything from Two-Buck Chuck to high end Bordeaux and Burgundies and has an enormous depth of knowledge about wine styles, regions and individual producers and winemakers. He also often has guests.

This week, post Stanley Cup, he has two brothers from St. John, New Brunswick on as guests in a shout out to Canada. Vaynerchuk's Episode #690 welcomes Adrian and Chris Nadeau, web developers who run the Hockey Zen TV Show website.

Vaynerchuk says he loves Canadian wines and thinks "there's a lot of good things going on there," but is not too enamoured of our state-controlled liquor distribution, "which sucks, right? Monopoly bull crap... it's like communism!"

FYI the Nadeau brothers selected an Icewine (an apple-based one from Quebec), a Volnay from Burgundy and a malbec from Argentina.
